PolyKom-740 operates in reservation 1+1 mode (Fig. 1). On the transmitting side the incoming stream is parallelized into two identical equivalent signals. On the receiving side the two incoming signals are compared in quality. The criteria for switching are LOS, AIS, ES (SES). The signal with the best quality is automatically switches to the outgo interface of E1. With the same quality of signals is selected the main path, designated by the operator. Path switching is performed during a period of not more than two digit time slots of E1 stream (G.703), i.e. without losing connection.

Features of equipment:

• path switching is performed in a time interval of no more than two digit time slots of E1 signal, i.e. without loss of connection;
• firmware update with help of a PC;
• organization of 1 to 4 independent switches in one form factor;
• control via SNMP or RS-232 interface (possible via LAN or Internet);
• event log in non-volatile memory that stores the date, time and nature of the event;
• Display of a current state by single indicators, notification about the emergency by sound signal and by stand signaling ("dry contacts");
• control over the local and remote equipment through the S bits in the structure of the E1 signal.

Management apparatus according to one of two joints:

• junction F (RS-232) using any standard ANSI - terminal;
• junction Q (Ethernet 10/100BASE-T) protocol SNMP v.1.0, using any SNMP manager.

PolyKom-740 provides comprehensive management capabilities using a PC:

• control over local and remote equipment in real time;
• configuration of local and remote devices (including switching and installation of loops);
• view of the log of the events at the local and remote equipment from non-volatile memory at real time.
